20-Year-Old Arrested In Connection With Shooting At Basketball Courts In Area

A 20-year-old man has been arrested due to his alleged connection to a shooting at a local basketball court.

The shooting occurred Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018 at the George Force Basketball Courts on Woodend Road in Stratford. Police say there were several witnesses.

Wednesday, Feb. 13, Stratford Police arrested Jacquez Smith of Stratford by warrant and charged him with the following:

  • First-degree assault
  • Reckless endangerment
  • Weapon in a motor vehicle
  • Criminal possession of a firearm
  • Criminal possession of ammunition
  • Carrying a pistol without a permit

Smith is being held on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Court on Thursday, Feb. 21. Investigations are still ongoing, and police urge anyone with further information to contact Detective Policano or Detective Torres at (203) 381-2098.
